Yellow River Mouth Erosion Increasing, Siltation Decreasing: Implications for Environment.
The study looked at changes in siltation and erosion at the Yellow River mouth from 1986 to 1996 using remote sensing and GIS. The findings show that siltation is decreasing while erosion is increasing. The main areas of erosion are the northern and southwestern parts, while siltation is happening in the southern and mouth areas. The rate at which the river mouth is moving into the sea is slowing down. The Yellow River mouth area is not continuously growing, and erosion in the region needs attention. The decrease in siltation and increase in erosion are due to less water and sediment in the Yellow River, caused by increased water usage and conservation efforts upstream, as well as climate change.
