Subsoiling Practice Boosts Winter Wheat Yields and Soil Conservation Dramatically
The study looked at different ways of farming on sloping land to see how they affect soil erosion and wheat yield. They tested reduced tillage, no-tillage, subsoiling, and conventional tillage over 6 years. No-tillage and subsoiling were best for keeping soil and water on the land. Subsoiling gave the highest wheat yields, about 9.4% more than conventional tillage. No-tillage also increased yields, except in very rainy years. Reduced tillage didn't make much difference in soil loss or yield. Subsoiling seems like a good choice for farmers in the area to improve soil and water conservation.
