The study analyzed land use changes in Wujiang City from 1996 to 2004. The main types of land use were arable land, undeveloped land, other farmland, residential area, and industrial and mining area. Over the 8-year period, arable land decreased while residential, industrial, and transport areas increased. The main driving forces behind these changes were population growth, economic interests, and government policies.
