Sediment transport patterns in Xiamen Bay reveal key environmental risks.
The researchers studied sediment distribution and deposition rates in Xiamen Bay and nearby waters. They collected sediment samples and analyzed their particle sizes, finding mainly silty sand and sandy silt. The sediments were transported in different directions, including southeastward in the Jiulong River Estuary and offshore in Tonganwan area. The deposition rate was measured at 2.62 cm per year in the Jiulong River Estuary. These findings can help with regional resource use and environmental protection.
