Fast-growing plants in wetlands clean polluted river water efficiently!
The study looked at how different plants in constructed wetlands can help clean up polluted river water. They found that certain plants like C.flaccida and Vetiveria zizanioides grew quickly and effectively removed pollutants. Cyperus slternifolius also grew well and covered the area completely. However, Cyperus papyrus didn't adapt well to the environment. The system operated steadily and removed around 3.1% of CODMn, 2.0% of TP, 12.7% of TN, and 5.2% of NH■■-N on average. The subsurface flow constructed wetland was good at handling shock loads and could treat more pollutants efficiently.
