New method revolutionizes identification of igneous rocks in reservoir evaluation!
Identifying the type of igneous rocks in the Dixi Area of Junggar Basin is important for evaluating reservoirs. The researchers found that the GR logging curve is sensitive to igneous rock lithology, followed by CNL. They developed a method using FMI to identify lithologic structure and conventional logging to identify rock composition, with a 90% accuracy rate compared to thin section analysis. Volcanic tuff and volcanic breccia are harder to recognize and have a higher error rate than other igneous rocks. Mistakes in identification are more likely with these types of rocks.
