Wetlands Key Players in Global Carbon Storage, Impacting Climate Change
The carbon cycle in wetland ecosystems is crucial for the global carbon balance. Wetlands store a significant amount of carbon, about 15% of all carbon on land. The way carbon moves in wetlands is unique because of their special environmental processes. Factors like plants, weather, and water all affect how much carbon is stored in wetlands. This review looked at past research on wetland carbon cycles, including where the carbon comes from and goes, and the methods used to study it. Some questions about wetland carbon cycles still need answers, and future research will focus on these areas.
