Poplar trees in Anhui could boost timber production by 2.7%
Researchers collected data from 329 samples of poplar trees in Anhui province to create a volume table for standing timber. They used a binary volume model to calculate the tree volume based on tree diameter and height. The best model they found was V=0.000 096 93d2.012 3h0.614 7. The average errors in the volume table were 2.7% for relative error, 8.6% for absolute error, and 0.1% for systematic error, all meeting the needs of forestry production.
