Rice straw application boosts methane emissions from flooded rice fields.
Rice straw application in winter affects methane production in flooded rice fields. The study found that adding rice straw increased methane emissions during the rice-growing season. However, the impact was more significant in the early stages after transplanting. Soil temperature and nitrogen fertilizer had a bigger influence on methane oxidation than rice straw. Overall, incorporating rice straw led to higher methane flux compared to not using it.
