The study looked at characteristics of large panicle hybrid japonica rice to find ways to increase its productivity. They analyzed different rice varieties and found that large panicle rice had higher grain yield and other traits compared to medium panicle rice. As the number of spikelets per panicle increased, so did grain yield and seed-setting rate of secondary branches. The key to achieving high yield in large panicle rice is increasing the weight of each grain.
