Forests Boost Rainfall and Prevent Soil Erosion in China's Karst Regions
The researchers studied how different types of ecosystems affect rainfall and soil erosion in Luota, China. They measured rainfall, sediment content, soil CO2 levels, and soil erosion in forests and shrublands. They found that forests had more rainfall than shrublands, with less soil and water loss. Forests also had higher soil CO2 levels and slower soil erosion rates compared to shrublands. Overall, forests had a better karst effect, which helps protect the land from erosion.
