Contaminated vegetables pose serious health risks to residents near mines.
The study looked at how heavy metals in vegetables from areas near mines can affect people's health. Researchers collected soil, water, and vegetable samples from four districts in China. They found that the levels of lead and cadmium in vegetables were higher than safe limits in some areas. People in Shangba village faced the highest health risks due to contaminated water used for irrigation. Lead and cadmium were the main heavy metals affecting health in this polluted area. Overall, the study showed that consuming vegetables from these contaminated areas could pose health risks to inhabitants.
