Snow cover in Tianshan Mountains shifting, impacting ecosystems and water resources.
The study looked at snow cover in the Tianshan Mountains in China from 2000 to 2006. They found that snow accumulates in autumn and melts in spring, with the most snow in January and February. Snow cover is increasing slightly overall, with more snow at lower elevations. There are five large snow cover areas, with the most snow in the middle and east of the mountains. Snow cover frequency is highest above 4,000 meters, especially in winter months. The average snow line altitude is around 2,875 meters, reaching above 4,000 meters in summer and around 1,500 meters in winter.
