Early cotton planting boosts yields, cuts costs for farmers in Huang-Huai region
The study looked at how different planting dates and densities affect the growth and yield of early-maturing cotton. They found that planting early and at lower density resulted in more cotton branches and bells. The highest bell number and yield were seen with a planting date of May 5 and a density of 9.0×104 plants/hm2. Delaying planting date and increasing density did not significantly decrease cotton yield. Overall, planting early-maturing cotton varieties with slightly higher density in late spring can help avoid rainy seasons, increase yield, and save resources in the Huang-Huai Region.
