Delayed sowing date reduces rice yield and growth in Chengdu.
The study looked at how the timing of planting affects the growth and yield of direct-seeding rice in Chengdu Plain. They used two types of hybrid rice in a pot experiment. The results showed that when planting is delayed, the growth period is shorter, the number of leaves on the main stem decreases, and the speed of leaf emergence increases. With the same number of seedlings, delaying planting also leads to fewer tillers per plant, a lower percentage of tillers bearing ears, and reduced yield.
