Soil conservation measures in China reduce annual runoff by up to 31%
The study analyzed how soil and water conservation methods affect annual runoff in the upper Chaohe River Basin in northern China from 1961 to 2005. Different methods were used to calculate the average annual runoff reduction, showing varying results. The runoff reduction was most significant during 2001-2005, followed by 1981-1990, and least during 1991-2000. Soil and water conservation measures had a greater impact during low water periods.
