Tigers rock tailings dam at risk of liquefaction during earthquakes
The study looked at the stability and earthquake response of the Tigers rock tailings dam in Sichuan. By using a special method, the researchers found that the dam is stable without earthquakes. But during a strong earthquake, the dam can slide and suffer damage. This happens because the water pressure inside the dam increases. To prevent this, the dam's drainage system needs to be improved to lower the water level inside the dam.
