Optimal Salinity Levels Boost Survival and Growth of Marine Larvae.
The study looked at how different levels of salt in the water affect the survival, growth, and transformation of a type of sea snail called Babylonia formosae habei. They did two experiments, one where the salt levels changed gradually and one where they changed suddenly. They found that the snails did best in salt levels between 21.0 and 27.5, with the highest survival and transformation rates at a salt level of 24.0. The snails also grew faster at this salt level. Changing the salt levels slowly helped the snails survive and transform better than changing them quickly.
