Constructed wetlands effectively treat mine wastewater, reducing harmful metal concentrations.
A study tested using wetlands to clean up polluted water from mines in Southern Shaanxi. They used different plants in the wetlands and found they were good at removing manganese, organic matter, copper, and zinc from the water. After 13 days, the levels of these pollutants dropped significantly. The order in which the plants were planted didn't affect the water quality, but it did change how much each plant helped clean the water.
