New method combines plants, chelates, and mycorrhiza to clean contaminated soil.
Phytoremediation is a method to clean up soil contaminated with heavy metals. Some plants that can do this are slow-growing and have limitations. To make this method more effective, scientists are studying how to combine regular fast-growing plants with chelates and mycorrhizal fungi. By using these combinations, they found that the plants can better absorb and remove heavy metals from the soil. This research shows that using chelates and mycorrhizal fungi together can enhance the process of phytoremediation in contaminated soil.
