Optimal soil moisture levels boost maize growth and emergence rates significantly.
The study looked at how soil moisture and irrigation affect the growth of maize plants. They found that the best soil moisture for maize emergence was around 20.6% for loam soil and 13.6% for sandy soil. The interaction between soil moisture and irrigation affected plant height and dry matter weight. For loam soil, the best soil moisture was 15.1% with an optimal irrigation of 86.7-91.7 mm. For sandy soil, the best soil moisture was 12.0-13.0% with an optimal irrigation of 76 mm.
