Climate change intensifies uneven runoff patterns in major river basin.
The study looked at the Nianchu River in the Yarlung Tsangpo River Basin to see how climate change affects its runoff. They analyzed data from 1956 to 2012 and found that while monthly runoff stays pretty consistent, the amount of water during flood season and dry periods varies a lot. They used a water balance model to simulate runoff changes and found that soil water storage capacity and direct runoff coefficient are important factors. The study showed that increasing precipitation has a bigger impact on runoff than decreasing precipitation, and rising temperatures have less of an effect.
