Yangtze Estuary Mouth Bar Experiencing Rapid Sediment Erosion and Deposition
The study looked at sediment movement in the Yangtze Estuary. Strong tides and lots of water and sediment cause a lot of sand to be carried in the mouth bar area. Sediment deposition and erosion are very active due to changes in tidal currents. The riverbed gets silted during floods and eroded during dry seasons. On average, the riverbed changes by 0.6 meters each year, but in some places, it can change by up to 2.4 meters.
