Indian mustard fails to effectively purify lead-contaminated soil, study finds.
The study looked at how Brassica juncea plants can absorb and activate insoluble lead in soil. They found that Indian mustard plants can absorb insoluble lead well, with over 80% of the lead taken up by the roots. However, the purification rate of lead in the soil by Brassica juncea was only 0.01%-0.02%, which means the plants were not very effective at cleaning up the polluted soil.
