New sugarcane varieties show higher tolerance to nutrient stress challenges.
The study looked at how different types of sugarcane respond to low levels of key nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. They found that all varieties showed reduced growth under nutrient stress, but some were more resilient than others. YC10-29 was better at handling low potassium levels, YC06-92 did well with low phosphorus, and ROC22 was more tolerant of low nitrogen. The roots grew longer in response to stress, especially in YC06-92 under low potassium. The plants also adjusted their nutrient levels, with phosphorus increasing under low potassium stress and potassium and phosphorus increasing under low nitrogen stress. Overall, the study shows that different sugarcane varieties have varying abilities to cope with nutrient stress.
