Potential evaporation in northern China has decreased over the past 50 years due to less sunshine, lower wind speed, and higher air humidity. This decrease is mainly caused by reduced solar radiation reaching the Earth's surface, which accounts for 78% of the total evaporation decrease. Human activities like energy consumption and air humidity increase are the key factors affecting this trend.
