Nitrogen fertilizer boosts wheat yield and efficiency, but varies by cultivar.
A study was conducted to see how different types of winter wheat respond to nitrogen fertilizer before flowering. Six wheat varieties were tested with and without nitrogen fertilizer. The results showed that applying nitrogen fertilizer increased grain yield and nitrogen uptake, but reduced nitrogen use efficiency. Each wheat variety responded differently to the fertilizer, with some showing more improvement than others. This means that choosing the right wheat variety and using nitrogen fertilizer can help increase grain yield and nitrogen use efficiency in winter wheat.
