The researchers studied how stirring affects the structure of medium-carbon steel as it solidifies. They found that longer stirring times make the steel's crystals smaller and more evenly distributed. Deeper stirring also leads to more evenly distributed crystals. Slower stirring rates result in more rounded crystals.
