Cable-Stayed Bridges Safer: Fatigue Risks Reduced in Steel Decks
The study looked at fatigue damage in steel decks of cable-stayed bridges. They found that certain welded points are prone to fatigue under cyclic loads. By using a hybrid finite element method, they determined that the compression beam segment doesn't need fatigue checking. The overall structural system effect can be ignored when assessing fatigue in tension beam segments of the steel deck.
