Revolutionary Hydrophytes Found to Cleanse Polluted Water in Northern China
Seven hydrophytes were tested in outdoor pot experiments to see how well they could remove nitrogen and phosphorus from polluted water. The results showed that all seven plants were good at removing these pollutants, with some species like Lythrum salicaria Linn being particularly effective. Some plants, like Scirpus validus Vahl, Typha angustifolia Linn, and Phragmites communis, showed the most promise for removing nitrogen and phosphorus in northern China. Overall, these findings suggest that certain hydrophytes could be used to clean up polluted water in constructed wetlands.
