The recovery rate in reverse osmosis systems is crucial for designing cost-effective desalination processes. Increasing the recovery rate can reduce system size and operating costs, but there is a limit due to mass transfer constraints. This research shows that optimizing the recovery rate can improve the economics of reverse osmosis systems without compromising membrane lifespan.
