Reduced Phosphorus Fertilizer Boosts Rice Yield and Quality in China.
Reducing phosphorus fertilizer in rice fields in Jiangsu coastal area can increase grain yield without affecting quality. A study compared different phosphorus fertilizer levels and found that lower phosphorus levels did not impact rice leaf health or dry matter accumulation. The 1000-grain weight was lower with reduced phosphorus, but overall yield was higher due to more effective panicles and grain numbers. Quality was similar except for a higher chalky grain rate, but eating quality improved with reduced phosphorus. This suggests that using less phosphorus fertilizer can be beneficial for rice production in the region.
