Untapped Oil Reserves Discovered in Dongying Sag, Poised to Transform Energy Landscape
Deep-water turbidite fans in the Shahejie Formation at Yong-55 block in Dongying sag are important reservoirs. The sedimentary sequence of conglomerate bodies was studied using drilling core descriptions, thin-section analysis, and more. The conglomerate body showed low maturity and was mainly transported by graded suspending. Gravity flow created most sedimentary structures. The turbidite fan can be divided into inner, middle, and outer fan subfacies. The middle fan's sandy conglomerate bodies are good reservoirs, while the dark mudstone contains hydrocarbon source rocks. These deep-water turbidite fan deposits have potential for oil and gas accumulation.
