New model reveals optimal irrigation practices for sustainable groundwater recharge.
The INFIL3.0 model was used to study groundwater recharge in the Shijin Irrigation District. The study found that the average net infiltration is 79mm per year, with a potential recharge coefficient of 0.135. Areas with surface water irrigation had higher infiltration and recharge rates compared to groundwater irrigation areas. Rainfall was identified as the main factor driving infiltration recharge, with peak infiltration occurring during intense rainfall periods. The current irrigation system was deemed reasonable based on the analysis of water balance.
