The study investigated forage productivity in grasslands in Qilian County. They found that the total grassland area is 84.9×104ha, with an average forage yield of 2515.10kg/ha. Winter-spring pastures have an average yield of 27200kg/ha, while summer-autumn pastures yield 2310kg/ha. The stocking density is 144.04×104 sheep unit in natural pastures and 24.64×10~4 sheep unit in winter-spring pastures. The study suggests some ways to increase forage productivity in natural pastures.
