Tropical Rainforest Study Reveals Surprising Species Abundance Distribution Patterns.
The study analyzed species abundance in a tropical rainforest in Xishuangbanna. Out of 468 species, only 13 had more than 1,000 individuals, while 230 species had very low density. The distribution of species in the plot was not random, and the lognormal model did not fit well. The environment played a significant role in species abundance distribution.
