Karst desertification patterns in Panxian county reveal urgent need for ecological restoration.
The study in Panxian, Guizhou looked at how karst rocky desertification patterns are formed and influenced by factors like land use and climate. They found five main types of patterns, ranging from intense rocky desertification to non-desertification. The distribution of rocky desertification is mainly on slopes between 10° to 17.5°. Different land-use types like shrubs and grassland are associated with varying degrees of rocky desertification. Natural factors like carbonate distribution and climate also play a role. By converting sloping fields into forest or grassland, the landscape can gradually transform from intense rocky desertification to non-desertification.
