Salt stress alters licorice photosynthesis, impacting product quality and availability.
Salt stress affects the photosynthesis of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. The study measured photosynthetic pigments and characteristics under different salt treatments. High salt levels decreased chlorophyll and carotenoid content, while the ratio of chlorophyll a to b increased. Net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, and stomata conductance decreased under high salt stress. Lower salt levels had minimal impact. This shows that salt stress can change the licorice plant's photosynthesis, providing insight into how it responds to salt stress.
