The study looked at soil in a mountain watershed and found that soil characteristics change with depth and vegetation type. Sub-alpine shrub meadow soil had the highest total porosity, while forest gray-brown soil had the highest water holding capacity. Soil on sunny slopes had the highest natural moisture content. Overall, sub-alpine shrub soil was best for water conservation.
