The relationship between urbanization and industrialization in China has been studied since the country's reform and opening-up. Overall, urbanization lags behind industrialization, with some regions showing different trends. The eastern and central regions have urbanization lagging behind industrialization, while the north-eastern region sees urbanization advancing industrialization. Despite the western region having a lower urbanization rate, it is the most coordinated with industrialization. The gap between urbanization and industrialization has been narrowing since 2003, but has started to increase gradually in recent years. Nature and policy factors play a significant role in influencing the development of urbanization in different regions.
