Surfactants reduce hydroscopicity of ammonium nitrate by 30%.
Ammonium nitrate can absorb moisture easily, but adding certain chemicals called surfactants can help reduce this. Scientists found that using surfactants can make ammonium nitrate less likely to absorb moisture. The modified version with surfactants absorbed about 30% less moisture than regular ammonium nitrate. They also identified which surfactants work best for this purpose.
