Soil cover impacts water evaporation, changing landscape sustainability in mountains.
The study looked at how soil moisture evaporates in different types of soil cover in the mountains of Lanzhou city. They controlled soil moisture levels using artificial rainfall and observed the evaporation process for 33 days. The results showed that soil cover significantly affects soil water evaporation. In areas without cover, more soil water led to more evaporation. The evaporation process was different in soil with cover compared to soil without cover. Soil water evaporation peaked in the first 10 days in non-covered areas. Overall, the study found that different soil treatments resulted in varying amounts of evaporation over time.
