Emperor Xiaowu's Split Creates Rival Eastern and Western Wei Dynasties
Emperor Xiaowu split the Northern Wei Dynasty into the Eastern and Western Wei Dynasty. Gaohuan defeated the Erzhushi group and controlled the six towns, making Xiaowu the emperor. Xiaowu fled to seek support from Yu Wentai, establishing the Western Wei Dynasty. Gaohuan then established the Eastern Wei Dynasty, relying on the military forces of the six towns. To ensure military security, Gaohuan moved to Ye City. However, the bureaucracy and nobles of Luoyang did not understand his intentions, leading them to flee to the Western Wei and strengthen the bureaucratic regime of the Western Wei Dynasty.
