Excessive Nitrogen Fertilization Leads to Soil Pollution in Wheat-Maize Rotation
The study looked at how different ways of adding nitrogen to soil affected the amount of nitrogen that leached into the soil in a wheat-corn rotation system. They found that using an optimized nitrogen fertilization strategy led to higher crop yields and less nitrogen buildup in the soil after harvest. Excessive nitrogen use was the main cause of nitrogen leaching. The best strategy for farmers in this system was to use the optimized fertilization approach.
