Urbanization in Xiamen City Adds Nearly 600 km2 of Land Cover Change
The article discusses how remote sensing techniques were used to track changes in land use in Xiamen City over a 10-year period. By analyzing satellite images, researchers found that urbanization led to an increase of 590.83 km2 in changed land cover and 351.99 km2 in changed land use between 1988 and 1998. This accounted for about 31.14% and 18.55% of Xiamen's total area. The main types of changes observed included cultivated land turning into gardens or forests, new cultivated land development, and construction taking over cultivated areas.
