Loess Plateau's Alarming Water Crisis: Rainfall Plummets, Runoff Vanishes, Ecosystem Imperiled.
The study looked at how rainfall affects water flow in Caijiachuan watershed. They found that water use was much higher than rainfall, with most water leaving as consumption. The amount of water flowing out as runoff was small, only 1.6% to 2.66% of rainfall. Runoff and peak discharge increased significantly with higher rainfall amounts and intensity. Rainfall intensity had the biggest impact on peak discharge, while rainfall amount had the biggest impact on runoff.
