Land use changes in China's Huanjiang County reveal rapid economic growth.
The researchers used satellite images and mapping technology to study how land use changed in Huanjiang County, China, between 1988 and 1999. They found that as the population grew and the economy expanded, more land was used for farming and grazing. Unused land decreased significantly, while forests remained relatively stable. The study showed that the county's development was focused on survival economy, with a center called Shien being a key area for competition.
