Mesozoic Cenozoic Sedimentary Facies in Tibet Reveal Oil Potential Shift.
The scientists studied the sedimentary rocks in Chalangla, Tibet to see if there is potential for oil and gas. They found two main types of rock: clastic and carbonate. These rocks are divided into 7 major types, like neritic and delta. The Upper Triassic rocks show a transition from marine to continental, while the Middle Jurassic rocks have a lot of neritic facies. The Upper Jurassic rocks are mostly marine to continental transition. Lower Cretaceous rocks have a restricted carbonate platform, and Upper Cretaceous rocks have piedmont alluvial fan facies.
