Groundwater movement key to unlocking massive coalbed methane reserves in China.
Coalbed methane in the southern Qinshui Basin is formed from coal seams that reached peak methane generation after undergoing coalification in different epochs. The reservoirs are influenced by factors like coalbed geometry, methane content, porosity, adsorption, and groundwater movement. The high-capacity methane wells are typically found in areas where groundwater is stagnant.
