Polluted River Basin Faces Water Shortage Crisis, Urgent Action Needed
The study developed a method to control water quality in the Hun-Tai River Basin by calculating pollutants from different sources. By considering factors like landform and pollutant degradation, the researchers proposed a process to control the amount of pollutants discharged into the river. In the year 2030, the total water demand in the basin is estimated to be 740 million m3 with a low water shortage ratio. The control amounts for key pollutants like COD, NH3-N, TP, and TN were determined to be 93, 6, 8, and 9 thousand tons respectively. Applying this method, with actual pollutant discharge levels, the water quality control objective was achieved at a rate of 100%.
